Eggs Benedict: Sara's Cooking Class

Eggs Benedict: Sara’s Cooking Class is a fun cooking game with a real recipe for this famous breakfast dish with poached eggs. A great brunch meal that’s also an Easter favourite.

Eggs Benedict is poached eggs on a sliced English muffin. With crispy Canadian bacon between the muffin and the eggs, and Hollandaise sauce ladled on top.

You can also make a number of variations on this dish simply by swapping out the bacon for something else. We’ve listed a couple of fun variations below.

How to play Eggs Benedict: Sara’s Cooking Class?

First, look for the items you need in Sara’s kitchen. The items are shown in the panel on the right side of the screen. Tap on the cupboards and the fridge to open them and look inside. Tap on the items and place them on the counter.

The recipe is divided into 4 parts:

  1. First, Sara will shown you how to poach the eggs. Poaching the perfect eggs can be tricky, so we’ve listed some tips below.
  2. Next, crisp up the round slices of Canadian bacon in a pan.
  3. Sara will also shown you how to make your own Hollandaise sauce from scratch! Hollandaise sauce is made of egg yolks, clarified butter, lemon juice and/or vinegar. It’s seasoned with salt and cayenne pepper (but you can also use white pepper instead).
  4. In the last part of the game, you can plate up your Eggs Benedict by stacking the ingredients on top of each other, pouring over the sauce, and decorating the plate with parsley and cherry tomatoes or radishes.

Tips for poaching eggs:

Poaching eggs isn't the easiest thing to do. Especially if you want your poached eggs to look professional and round. If you don't do it right, they'll turn into a wispy mess. However, there are some tricks that can help you achieve great results. Here are out top tips for perfectly poached eggs:

  • Timing - Poach your egg for 3 minutes if you want a liquid, runny yolk. If you want a slightly firmer, jam-like yolk, poach your eggs for 4 minutes.
  • Temperature - If your water is boiling, the big bubbles will break up your egg. Keep the water at around 82-88 degrees Celsius — with tiny bubbles forming at the bottom of the pan while the water’s surface remains still.
  • Add vinegar - Add a little bit of white vinegar to the water to make the egg whites firm up faster. Sara also adds salt, but salt could make the egg more wispy, so it’s better to salt the eggs when they are done.
  • Don’t stir the water - When you’re poaching ONE egg, stirring the water before adding the egg helps wrap the egg around itself. This will give the poached egg a nice round shape. But this doesn’t work when you’re poaching TWO eggs in the same pan!
  • Break the eggs in a bowl - Don’t drop the eggs straight into the water! They’ll break up and get really wispy. If you break the egg into a bowl or ramekin, you can tip it into the water more gently.
  • Use fresh eggs - The fresher the eggs, the better the result. But if you don’t have freshly laid eggs, the next tip will help you achieve the same result.
  • Get rid of the liquid egg white - The most liquid parts of the egg white are parts that are most likely to get very wispy. If you want a perfect result, carefully break the egg into a sieve over a bowl. The runniest egg white will seep out, and the firmer white will stay in the sieve.

More brunch, more fun!

You can easily change the ingredients to create all kinds of variations on Eggs Benedict. Here are some well known ones to get you started, but you can also invent you own:

  • Eggs Royale (or Eggs Atlantic) = replace the bacon with smoked salmon
  • Eggs Blanchard = replace the Hollandaise sauce with béchamel sauce
  • Eggs Florentine = replace the bacon with spinach and add gruyère cheese
  • Eggs Balmoral = replace the bacon with Scottish haggis
  • Eggs Neptune = replace the bacon with crab meat
  • Crab Cake Benedict = replace the bacon and the muffin with a crab cake
  • Mushroom Benedict = replace the bacon with grilled mushrooms
