Peg Solitaire

Peg Solitaire is a mathematical board game in which you have to clear away the pegs by hopping over them.

This game is sometimes also confused with Chinese Checkers or Halma. Though similar, those games are not quite the same: Peg Solitaire is a single-player game, whereas the other two are not.

How to play Peg Solitaire?

The aim is to remove all the pegs from the board until there is only one left. You can remove the pegs by jumping over them with another peg. Tap on a pet to select it. The game will now show you where you can jump.

Each peg can only jump two spaces up, down, left, or right. They must always jump over another peg, and land on an empty space. The peg you have jumped over will vanish from the board.

How to Win: Peg Solitaire Strategy Tips

While the rules of this game are simple, winning the game can be tricky. Here are some tips to help you along:

  • Try a different board
There are 12 different boards to complete. Some boards are smaller - like the Star, which has only 11 pegs and 12 holes. This board might be a good choice to start with. The Snowflake and Hexagon boards are the largest. If you’re having trouble with one particular board, you can always move on to another one and come back later.

  • Use UNDO to test new tactics
Use the undo button when you get stuck. Instead of hitting restart, try to undo a couple of moves and see if there’s another strategy you can try. This game is all about pattern recognition and the undo button will assist you in reviewing your moves. This way, you can test some different tactics and learn to recognize how each layout works.

  • Avoid isolating pegs
Try to think ahead a few moves. If you move this peg, what moves can or cannot happen next? Look and think before you jump into a corner. Will this cause the peg to be isolated? Will you still be able to reach it later?

  • Don’t be afraid to make mistakes
Failing is also part of getting better at something. Now that you know what doesn’t work, see if you can figure out why, and try a different approach. Next time, you’ll know exactly what potential pitfalls to look out for.
